After Builders Cleaning in Romford (RM)
The builders have packed up, but there’s a grey film on every surface, paint spots on the new windows, and dust still settling days later. Our after builders cleaning in Romford gets your home or premises across RM from building site to somewhere you can actually live or trade in, with dust taken off properly rather than pushed around. Call or send us a few photos and we’ll put together a free, no-obligation quote.

Why builders’ dust needs more than a quick hoover
Plaster, cement and sanding dust is far finer than household dust. It hangs in the air, drifts into cupboards you never opened, and keeps settling for a day or two after the last trade leaves. A standard vacuum can blow the finest particles straight back into the room, and a wet cloth used too early turns it into a smeary paste.
We work top to bottom, using a vacuum with fine filtration first, then dry and damp wiping in separate passes. Light fittings, door tops and skirting get done before floors, so nothing lands on a surface we’ve already finished. On bigger jobs, expect us to go over some areas twice. That’s the only way to stop the film reappearing the next morning.
What’s included in a post renovation clean
We agree a room-by-room checklist before we start, based on what was built and what’s been left behind. A typical construction clean up covers:
Throughout the property
- Dust removal from ceilings, coving, cornicing and wall surfaces where safe to do so
- Light fittings, switches, sockets and radiators wiped (power isolated where needed)
- Door frames, tops of doors, architraves and skirting boards
- Window sills, frames and the inside of glass, including paint spots and plaster splashes
- Hard floors vacuumed and mopped; carpets vacuumed with fine-dust filtration
Kitchens
- Inside and outside of new units, drawers and wall cupboards (these need to be empty)
- Worktops, splashbacks and hob surfaces, checked for sealant smears and protective film residue
- Sink, taps and appliance exteriors
- Extractor hood exterior and filters where accessible
Bathrooms
- Sticker and adhesive residue removed from new sanitaryware
- Light grout haze and silicone smears cleaned from tiles and trays
- Shower screens, mirrors, taps and chrome fittings
- Toilets, basins and baths cleaned ready for first use
Commercial premises
- Shop floors, display areas and counters ready for stock
- Office desks, partitions and glazed panels
- Staff kitchens and toilets
Extras, limits and what cleaning can’t fix
Some tasks need separate agreement or a different approach. We’ll flag these when we quote so there are no surprises on the day.
- External windows and high-level glazing. Quoted separately, often through our window cleaning service.
- Carpets heavy with plaster dust. Vacuuming helps, but trodden-in dust often needs hot water extraction. Ask about carpet cleaning as an add-on.
- Inside ovens and appliances. New appliances usually just need wiping. Used ones need a separate oven clean.
- Heavy grout haze, cement on stone, or paint on carpet. We’ll test what’s safe, but some of this needs the original trade or a specialist.
There are also jobs we won’t take on. We don’t remove rubble, offcuts or skip waste, so ask your builder to clear these first. If anything looks like it could contain asbestos (old textured ceilings, floor tiles or pipe lagging that’s been disturbed), we’ll stop and you’ll need a licensed specialist. Cleaning also can’t repair scratched glass, chipped tiles, stained grout or damp coming through new plaster. If we spot damage, we’ll tell you so you can raise it with your builder before signing off.
How long does a post renovation clean take?
It depends on the size of the job and how much dust there is. A single room after a plastering job might take a few hours. A full house after an extension or rewire can take one or more days with a team. We’ll give you an honest estimate when we quote, once we’ve seen photos or walked through.
Timing matters more than speed. Book us after the last trade has finished, not while the electrician is still coming back for one socket. If more work happens after we’ve cleaned, the dust comes straight back.
How our builders cleaning works
- Send details. Tell us the property type, what work was done, and roughly when it’ll be finished. Photos of each room help us quote accurately.
- Agreed checklist and quote. We confirm the scope, any extras and the price upfront. Larger commercial jobs may need a quick walkthrough first.
- Access arranged. We agree keys, arrival time and parking in advance. If the site manager or a neighbour holds the keys, that’s fine. Just let us know who.
- The clean. We bring our own supplies and equipment, including fine-filter vacuums, scrapers suitable for glass, and microfibre cloths that are kept separate for kitchens, bathrooms and general surfaces.
- Final check. We walk through against the agreed checklist before we leave. If something in scope has been missed, contact us promptly and we’ll arrange to put it right. We’ll confirm how that works when you book.
What you’ll need to sort beforehand: working electricity and running water, rubbish and tools cleared away, and cupboards emptied if you want the insides done.
What changes the price of an after builders clean?
Every renovation leaves a different mess, so we quote each job individually. The main factors are:
- Size of the property and the number of rooms affected
- Type of work done. Sanding and plastering create far more dust than a new kitchen fitted into a finished room
- Condition on handover, including paint splashes, adhesive residue and sealant smears
- Extras such as carpet cleaning, external windows or high-level work
- Access, including stairs, parking and whether the building is occupied
See our pricing page for how we put quotes together. Send photos and we can usually give you a clear figure without a visit.
Practical things we plan around in Romford
Most of our renovation work across Romford is in terraced houses, semis and flats where people are trying to move back in fast. A few things help the day run smoothly:
- Parking. Plenty of streets near the town centre are permit-only. Tell us about bays or visitor permits so we’re not losing time looking for a space with a van full of kit.
- Occupied homes. If you’re living in one half while the other half’s done, we’ll seal doorways where we can and work room by room so you’re not breathing dust all day.
- Pets. Keep them out of the rooms being cleaned. Fine dust and wet floors don’t mix well with paws.
- Shops and offices. For premises in and around Romford town centre, we can schedule early or after closing where possible, so you’re ready to open on time. Short-notice slots depend on availability.
- New flats and communal areas. We’ll agree access with the managing agent or site team and work around other residents.
Doing it without damaging new finishes
New surfaces are often more delicate than they look. Freshly sealed worktops, natural stone, matt paint and brushed metal can mark easily with the wrong product or too much pressure.
We check what each surface is before we start, test any stronger product on a hidden area first, and follow manufacturer guidance where you have it. Glass scrapers are only used on suitable glass, held at the right angle with plenty of lubrication. Kitchen and bathroom cloths are kept separate. Surfaces that will touch food are rinsed after cleaning so they’re ready to use. If you’ve got eco-friendly preferences or allergies in the household, mention them and we’ll check which products suit your surfaces.
What customers say
“We’d had a back extension and knocked through to the kitchen. I thought I’d cleaned it, but the dust kept coming back every day. They went over everything twice, did the inside of every cupboard, and got the paint off the new bifold glass without a mark on it. First time it actually felt finished.”
Hannah R., Gidea Park (after builders cleaning)
“Booked them for a shop refit. They came in after closing so we could open the next morning. Floor was spotless and the counters were ready for stock.”
Dev P., Romford town centre (post renovation cleaning)
“Full rewire and replaster on a rental flat between tenants. I was at work so I left keys with the neighbour downstairs. They sent a message when they’d finished and pointed out a cracked tile the builder had missed, which saved me an argument later.”
Michael O., Harold Wood (construction clean up)
Frequently asked questions
Do you bring your own equipment and products?
Yes. We bring fine-filter vacuums, glass-safe scrapers, microfibre cloths and suitable cleaning products. Let us know beforehand if you’d prefer we use something specific or eco-friendly products.
When should I book the clean?
Book it for after every trade has finished, including the decorator and any snagging visits. If work is still happening, dust will land on surfaces we’ve already cleaned.
Can you get rid of all the fine dust in one visit?
Usually, yes, for the surfaces in scope. Very dusty jobs sometimes settle further over the following day or two, so on larger renovations we may suggest a short follow-up visit. We’ll tell you when we quote if we think that’s likely.
Do you remove builders’ rubbish?
No. We don’t take away rubble, offcuts, packaging or skip waste. Ask your builder to clear these before we arrive so we can get straight to cleaning.
Will you clean inside new kitchen cupboards?
Yes, if they’re empty. Dust gets into every drawer and cabinet during fitting, so we include insides on most kitchen jobs when you ask for them.
Do you cover areas outside the town centre?
Yes. We work right across RM, including Gidea Park, Collier Row, Harold Hill, Harold Wood and Rush Green. Get in touch with your address and we’ll confirm.
What if something on the checklist has been missed?
Contact us promptly and we’ll arrange to put it right. We’ll confirm the reporting window and how re-cleans work when you book.
