Warehouse cleaning in Romford – planned around your shifts - Cleaning Romford

Warehouse Cleaning in Romford (RM)

Warehouse cleaning in Romford has to fit around forklifts, delivery windows and people who need to get on with their shift. We clean distribution units, trade counters, storage buildings and light industrial premises across RM. That covers the floors, the aisles, the racking, and the offices and welfare areas your team uses every day, all planned so we don’t hold up the work.

Call us or send a few details and photos of the site, and we’ll put together a free, no-obligation quote.

What we clean in a working warehouse

Every site is different, so we build a checklist around your layout, your goods and how the building is used. A typical scope includes the following.

Floors, aisles and loading bays

  • Sweeping and clearing aisles, pick faces and walkways of shrink wrap, strapping, cardboard and pallet splinters
  • Machine or manual scrubbing of sealed concrete and painted floors, where the surface and layout suit it
  • Clearing grit and tyre marks from goods-in and despatch areas
  • Cleaning around dock levellers, roller shutter tracks and door thresholds
  • Keeping marked walkways and floor safety lines clean enough to see

Floor and racking cleaning

  • Dusting accessible beam levels, uprights and end-of-aisle frames
  • Clearing debris from under bottom-beam pallets where it’s safe to reach
  • Wiping down shelving, bin locations and packing benches
  • Reporting any damaged racking we notice. We don’t assess or repair it.

Racking is cleaned around stock, not through it. If certain bays need emptying first, we’ll agree that with you so the work fits your stock movements.

Offices, toilets and welfare areas

Warehouse office and welfare areas often get forgotten because the focus is on the shop floor. We clean canteens and kitchenettes, including microwaves, fridge exteriors, worktops and sinks. We also clean toilets, showers and changing rooms, and offices with their desks, phones and floors. Some sites have a separate office block that needs a different routine, and our office cleaning service can cover it on the same visit.

Warehouse dust control: why sweeping alone isn’t enough

Dry sweeping a large concrete floor mostly moves fine dust from one place to another. It settles again on stock, on racking beams and on the screens in the goods-in office. Concrete also gives off its own dust as it wears, so an unsealed or tired floor creates more of it every week.

Here’s how we keep it down:

  • Using brushes and methods suited to fine dust, not just a wide broom
  • Following up with damp or scrubber-dryer cleaning so dust is lifted off the floor, not just pushed around
  • Working from high to low, so nothing we clean gets covered again by dust falling from above
  • Paying attention to the corners and wall edges where forklifts push debris and it builds up

We’ll also point out if the dust problem looks like it’s coming from the floor itself. A sealant or floor coating is a contractor’s job, and cleaning can only manage it.

High-level cleaning and machinery safety: what we agree first

High-level cleaning covers the tops of racking, lighting, ductwork, beams and roof-light frames. It needs planning, the right access equipment and a clear area below. It isn’t part of a routine visit. We’ll discuss the heights involved, what access is safe on your site and whether the area needs closing off during the work, then quote it separately.

Machinery-safe cleaning means we clean around equipment, not inside it. Conveyors, balers, compactors, wrapping machines and charging stations are left to your trained staff to isolate. We don’t operate, dismantle or clean live machinery. Once your team has confirmed equipment is switched off and safe, we can clean guarding, surrounding floors and external surfaces as agreed.

Industrial cleaning method statements are often required before work starts, especially for contracts and high-level jobs. Tell us what your site needs and we’ll provide the method statement and risk information for the work we’ve agreed. Let us know your induction process too. We’re happy to go through site rules, PPE requirements and one-way systems before the first visit.

Work that needs a specialist, or isn’t a cleaning job

Some things look like cleaning problems but aren’t. We’ll tell you plainly when that’s the case.

  • Chemical or fuel spills need your spill procedure and possibly a licensed contractor, depending on what was spilled.
  • Suspected asbestos in older roof sheets, panels or floor tiles must not be disturbed. Stop and get it surveyed.
  • Bird fouling in quantity needs specialist cleaning, and usually pest control as well.
  • Damp, leaks and staining from the roof are building issues. We can clean up afterwards, but the source has to be fixed first.
  • Worn, cracked or flaking floor paint won’t come back with scrubbing, and aggressive cleaning can make it worse.

For one-off heavy cleans after a fit-out or racking installation, our after builders cleaning team deals with fine construction dust.

How a warehouse clean is set up

  1. Tell us about the site. Send the approximate floor area, what you store, opening hours and the areas you want covered. Photos help.
  2. Walkthrough. For most warehouse work we’ll visit to see the layout, floor condition, access and any equipment we need to work around.
  3. Agreed checklist and quote. You get a scope that sets out what’s cleaned and how often. It also lists what’s excluded and what costs extra. The price is agreed upfront before work starts.
  4. Access and induction. We agree keys or fob handling, alarm codes, arrival times, sign-in and who our contact on site is.
  5. Cleaning and final check. We work through the checklist and check it before leaving. If something agreed has been missed, let us know promptly and we’ll arrange to put it right.

Before we arrive, clear the aisles of loose pallets where possible and tell us which areas are off-limits. We bring our own cleaning supplies and equipment unless we’ve agreed otherwise.

What changes the price

  • Floor area and how much of the building is in scope
  • Current condition, especially for a first clean or a neglected unit
  • The task list, such as floors only, or floors plus welfare areas and offices
  • Frequency, whether daily, weekly or a periodic deep clean
  • Specialist methods, including scrubber-drying, high-level access and degreasing
  • Access and timing, such as out-of-hours work, weekends or working around live operations

Working on site: shifts, safety and access

Many sites in Romford run early starts, late despatch or weekend shifts. We’ll plan cleaning around them. That might mean doing the offices before the day shift, floors after the last trailer leaves, or separating the warehouse into zones so one aisle is cleaned while the next is picking.

On the floor, our cleaners follow your traffic routes, wear the PPE your site requires and keep wet areas signed and out of the way. We plan floor drying time so a freshly scrubbed aisle isn’t needed for a forklift ten minutes later. We’ll also need to know about secure stock areas, high-value cages and any zones where only your staff are allowed.

Our cleaners are vetted and insured. You can read more about our cover on the insurance page.

Warehouse cleaning contracts or a one-off clean?

Warehouse cleaning contracts suit sites that need consistent standards, usually a set routine for floors and welfare areas, with periodic deep cleans and high-level work booked in separately. You get the same checklist each visit and one point of contact to tell when priorities change.

One-off cleans suit a unit you’re moving into or leaving, a pre-audit tidy-up, a clean after stocktake, or a reset after a busy peak season. We cover industrial estates and business units across RM, and the same planning applies to both.

What our customers say

“We run a small distribution unit and the welfare block had got out of hand. They now do the canteen, toilets and office twice a week, with the warehouse floor done on Saturdays when there’s no traffic. The floor dust on the packing benches has gone right down.” Darren M., Harold Hill, warehouse and welfare cleaning

“Needed a method statement before anyone could start on site. They sent one over without any fuss and did our induction on the first morning. Good, careful people around the forklifts.” Kerry O., Rainham, warehouse floor cleaning

“We took on a unit that had been empty for months and was full of pigeon mess near the roller shutter. They were upfront that the fouling needed a specialist first, then came back and did the rest of the clean once it was sorted. I appreciated that they didn’t just take the job.” Imran H., Rush Green, one-off warehouse clean

“Keys go in a lockbox and they’re in and out before our 6am shift. Offices are always done properly.” Sophie T., Chadwell Heath, regular industrial cleaning

Warehouse cleaning FAQs

Can you clean while the warehouse is operating?

Yes, in most cases. We zone the work, follow your traffic routes and schedule floors for quieter periods. Busy despatch areas are usually best done out of hours.

Do you clean the tops of racking?

Yes, but as a separately agreed task. It depends on the heights, the access equipment needed and whether bays can be cleared or closed off. Accessible beam levels can be included in routine visits.

Will you clean our machinery?

No, not live machinery. Your staff isolate equipment first. After that we clean guarding, external surfaces and the floor around it as agreed.

Can you provide RAMS before starting?

Yes. We provide a method statement and risk information for the agreed work. Tell us your site’s requirements when you enquire so they’re ready before the first visit.

Do you clean the office and toilets as well as the warehouse?

Usually, yes. Most contracts combine the warehouse floor with offices, canteens, toilets and changing areas. For full building support, see our janitorial services.

Do you cover industrial estates outside Romford?

Yes. We cover business units and industrial estates across the RM area. Send us your postcode and we’ll confirm.

How quickly can you start?

It depends on availability and whether a walkthrough and induction are needed. We’ll give you a realistic start date when we quote.
