Mattress Cleaning in Romford (RM)
Most mattresses get a fresh sheet every week but haven’t been properly cleaned since the day they were delivered. You might have a child’s bed that’s had an accident, a guest mattress that smells stale, a partner with allergies, or a flat to hand back before checkout. Our mattress cleaning in Romford lifts embedded dust, freshens sweat and odour, and treats marks with methods chosen for your mattress, with visits across RM homes, lets and holiday rentals.
Call 01708 204 312 or send us a photo of the mattress and its care label for a free, no-obligation quote.
What a professional mattress clean actually involves
A mattress needs more than a run over with a household vacuum. Skin flakes, dust and dust mite debris work down into the quilting and seams. Sweat soaks into the top layers night after night. We work in stages so each problem gets the right treatment.
On a typical visit we:
- Inspect first. We check the care label, fabric, fillings and any marks before choosing a method. Memory foam, pocket sprung, pillow-top and latex mattresses all behave differently when they meet moisture.
- Dry vacuum thoroughly. We use a filtered machine and a narrow tool along the piping, buttons, tufts and side seams, which is where debris collects.
- Pre-treat marks. Sweat patches, tea, make-up and old spills get a product suited to the stain and the fabric.
- Clean the surface. This is usually hot water extraction or a low-moisture method, depending on the mattress. Memory foam and thick pillow-tops get low-moisture treatment so the core isn’t soaked.
- Deodorise and sanitise. We apply a sanitising treatment to the surface to tackle odour-causing bacteria.
- Do both sides where possible. Many modern mattresses are one-sided, so we’ll clean the sleeping surface and sides. If yours turns and it’s safe to move, we’ll do the underside too.
We bring the equipment and products. If you’d rather we used gentler or eco-friendly products, tell us when you book and we’ll check they suit the fabric.
Can you get rid of sweat, urine and odour?
Usually we can make a noticeable difference, though how much depends on how deep the problem goes. Sweat staining and general stale smells respond well to pre-treatment and extraction. Fresh accidents are easier to deal with than ones that have dried in over months.
Urine is the hardest. When it has soaked through the top layers into foam or wadding, we can treat the surface and reduce odour, but we can’t reach the core of the mattress. We’ll tell you honestly what to expect once we’ve seen it. Sometimes a mattress protector and a good clean will do the job. Sometimes the mattress is better replaced.
We won’t promise that every mark will come out. Old blood, dye transfer from bedding and yellowing from age often fade rather than disappear.
Mattress cleaning for allergies and dust mites
Our dust mite treatment in Romford focuses on removing the dust, skin flakes and mite debris that build up in the top layers, which is what many allergy sufferers react to. A thorough vacuum and surface clean takes a lot of that out.
No cleaning method can make a mattress allergen-free, and dust mites start returning as soon as someone sleeps on it again. To make the clean last, we suggest:
- a washable, breathable mattress protector
- washing bedding at the hottest temperature the care label allows
- opening the window for a while each morning before making the bed
- booking a repeat clean every six to twelve months
If someone in the house has asthma or a sensitive skin condition, tell us beforehand. We’ll choose products with that in mind and make sure the mattress is dry before anyone sleeps on it.
What we can’t fix with cleaning
Some problems need a different solution, and it’s better you know before you book.
- Mould. Spots of mould usually mean the mattress has been against a damp wall or on a poorly ventilated base. We can clean light surface marks, but if the room has condensation or structural damp it will come back. The damp needs sorting first.
- Bed bugs. These need a pest control specialist. Cleaning alone won’t deal with an infestation. Once treatment is finished, we’re happy to clean.
- Damage. Sagging, broken springs, torn covers and crushed foam are wear, not dirt.
- Fire safety labels. We never remove them, and we’d advise you not to either.
How the visit works, from photo to dry mattress
- Tell us about the job. How many mattresses, their sizes and types, and what’s bothering you. Photos of the stains and the care label help us quote accurately.
- We agree the scope and price. You’ll know what’s included and what each extra costs before we arrive.
- You prepare the room. Strip the bedding and protector, and clear a little space around the bed so we can reach the sides. If you’d like the underside done, let us know so we can plan for turning it.
- We clean. A single mattress doesn’t take long, but stain treatment and drying add time.
- We check it with you. We’ll go over the agreed tasks before we leave. If something within scope has been missed, contact us promptly and we’ll arrange to put it right. We’ll confirm how that works when you book.
How long does a mattress take to dry?
Usually several hours. A low-moisture clean on a single mattress in a warm, airy room can be dry by the afternoon. A larger mattress that needed heavier stain treatment, in a cool bedroom with the windows shut in winter, will take longer.
To speed things up, open a window, leave the door open, keep the heating on low and run a fan if you have one. Don’t put sheets back on until the surface feels completely dry, and press the deeper stained areas to check. Morning bookings give the mattress the whole day before bedtime, so most of our Romford customers choose an early slot. If you only have one bed in use, plan for a night on the sofa or the spare room just in case.
What changes the price
Mattress cleaning prices in Romford depend on a few things:
- Size and number. A cot mattress and a super king are very different jobs, and several mattresses on one visit work out better value than separate bookings.
- Type. Memory foam and pillow-tops take more care.
- Condition. General freshening costs less than heavy staining or odour treatment.
- Both sides. Cleaning the underside adds time and handling.
- Combined work. Adding a headboard, divan base, sofa or bedroom carpet on the same visit.

Mattresses in rentals, holiday lets and family homes
Landlords and tenants often add a mattress clean to an end of tenancy clean, especially in furnished lets where the inventory notes the mattress condition. We can’t guarantee an inventory pass or a deposit return, and we can’t remove wear, but a cleaned mattress with fewer marks makes a better impression at checkout. Leave plenty of drying time before the check.
For Airbnb and short-let hosts in RM, cleaning between longer gaps in bookings keeps mattresses fresh and protectors working as they should.
In family homes, we’re used to working around pets, children’s routines and people working from home. Let us know about dogs or cats so they can be kept out of the bedroom while we work, and tell us about parking or key arrangements in advance. If you won’t be in, we can agree access ahead of time.
Many customers book a headboard, sofa or armchair at the same time. Our upholstery cleaning uses similar fabric-first checks.
What customers say
“My son had a couple of accidents and the mattress smelt even after I’d scrubbed it. They were straight with me that the inside might still hold some of it, but the smell’s gone from the surface and the yellow patch is much fainter. It was dry by teatime too.” Hannah W., Collier Row
“Had three mattresses done before handing back a furnished flat. They worked around the inventory notes and gave me a good idea of how long to leave them to dry before the check.” Daniel O., Romford town centre
“Asked for gentle products because of my daughter’s eczema. They checked the label on her memory foam mattress, used a low-moisture clean and talked me through keeping it fresh.” Sunita K., Gidea Park
Mattress cleaning FAQs
Do I need to be home during the clean? No, as long as we’ve agreed access in advance. Many customers leave keys with a neighbour or arrange a code. You’ll want to be around later to check it’s dry before making the bed.
Will cleaning make my mattress completely hygienic? No cleaning method makes a mattress sterile. A thorough vacuum, surface clean and sanitising treatment takes out a lot of built-up dust, sweat and odour-causing bacteria and leaves it noticeably fresher.
Can you clean memory foam? Yes. We use a low-moisture method so the foam isn’t soaked, because wet memory foam takes a long time to dry and can be damaged.
How often should a mattress be professionally cleaned? Usually once or twice a year. Allergy sufferers, pet owners and holiday let hosts often book more frequently.
Will you clean the underside? Yes, if the mattress is designed to turn and it’s safe to move. Many modern mattresses are one-sided, in which case we clean the top and sides.
Can you remove every stain? Not always. Fresh marks and sweat staining often lift well. Old urine, blood and dye transfer may fade rather than disappear. We’ll tell you what to expect when we see it.
Do you clean divan bases and headboards? Yes, we can add them on the same visit. Tell us when you ask for a quote so they’re included in the agreed price.
